Le “Short Stories” sono un ciclo di opere che Paolo Ventura ha realizzato al ritorno da New York, tra il 2012 e il 2015 nel suo studio di Anghiari, un paesino della Toscana, dove l’artista aveva passato molta parte della sua infanzia. In un angolo dello studio, situato in un vecchio granaio, l’artista ha costruito un piccolo palcoscenico, con diversi fondali da lui dipinti e lì ha iniziato a fabbricare brevi e poetiche storie per immagini.

Le scenografie sono diventate veri set fotografici dove l’artista è entrato a far parte di mondi fantastici ritraendo dapprima sé stesso poi coinvolgendo il figlio Primo, la moglie Kim e il fratello gemello Andrea, come interpreti delle storie che andava a costruire.

Paolo Ventura è nato a Milano nel 1968. Nei primi anni ’90 frequenta l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera che lascia quasi subito per interessarsi di fotografia. Nei successivi dieci anni, è fotografo di moda, di design e di paesaggio ma decide di abbandonare la fotografia commerciale e di trasferirsi a New York. In un piccolissimo studio a Brooklyn, inizia a ricostruire dei diorami relativi alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale in Italia, basandosi sui ricordi e le storie raccontate dalla nonna materna.

The “Short Stories” are a series of works that Paolo Ventura created upon his return from New York, between 2012 and 2015 in his studio in Anghiari, a small village in Tuscany, where the artist had spent much of his childhood. In a corner of the studio, located in an old barn, the artist built a small stage, with several backdrops painted by him and there he began to fabricate short and poetic stories in images.

The sets became real photographic sets where the artist became part of fantastic worlds, first portraying himself and then involving his son Primo, his wife Kim and his twin brother Andrea, as interpreters of the stories he was going to build.

Paolo Ventura was born in Milan in 1968. In the early 1990s he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts which he left almost immediately to become interested in photography. Over the next ten years, he was a fashion, design and landscape photographer but decided to abandon commercial photography and move to New York. In a very small studio in Brooklyn, he began to reconstruct dioramas relating to the Second World War in Italy, based on the memories and stories told by his maternal grandmother.
